2012 APSA Teaching and Learning Conference February 17-19, 2012 | Washington, DC | Grand Hyatt Washington
35th Annual National Teaching Public Administration Conference
May 21-23, 2012
South Padre Island, Texas
Conference Theme:
“Diversity and Civic Engagement in Teaching Public Administration”
The call for proposals for the 35th Annual Teaching Public Administration Conference opens October 30, 2011. The conference will be held Monday, May 21 through Wednesday, May 23, 2012 at the Isla Grand Beach Resort at South Padre Island in partnership with the University of Texas at Brownsville. While this conference is designed for public and nonprofit educators, practitioners, and students, we welcome ideas and proposals from all disciplines.
The theme for this year’s conference points to the importance of two vital concerns that sometimes conflict in teaching public administration, diversity and civic engagement. How do we facilitate examination of a range of views and perspectives in an atmosphere of mutual respect in a diverse population? Can service learning and other pedagogical techniques address both course learning outcomes and provide benefits the larger community? Can technology in the classroom facilitate civic engagement? How can social media be used constructively in the classroom? Presenters are invited to share their knowledge and experiences while facilitating dynamic and interactive discussions. Professors are encouraged to include students in their presentations, and student presentations are welcome. Authors can submit their papers for inclusion in the symposium of the Journal of Public Affairs Education (JPAE).
