June President's Message
Welcome to the Northern Virginia Chapter of ASPA. I am excited to serve as your president for the upcoming year and look forward to meeting more of our members as the year progresses.
The council has been working very hard in the past few months to strengthen the chapter. We want it to become a dynamic organization that is worthwhile for members and one which provides service to the government entities and non-profits in Northern Virginia.
Recently we sent out an electronic survey to all the current members. We are seeking to gain insight and feedback on when to meet, where to meet and what types of meetings, activities and events would benefit the members. Please complete the survey if you have not already done so – we want to hear from you!
We have also been working on redesigning the chapter’s website. Our goal is to keep it more current so that members easily see what the chapter has planned. We are working on establishing a list serve so members can share information, ideas and utilize each other as resources in the course of our work. Your feedback and suggestions are welcome – e-mail us at Northernvirginiaaspa@gmail.com
Members of the council will be meeting with Dr. Paul Posner, Program Director; Master of Public Administration Program, George Mason University, to discuss ways which we can work collaboratively with the university. In the works is an event tentatively set for October 17.
We are looking for members who are interested in serving on planning committees. The council members cannot do this on our own. In order for us to better serve the membership and the community, we need help with a variety of things, and the time commitment for one committee is not that large if more members step up to the plate. Here is the list:
- Fall Event Committee
- Holiday Reception
- Meeting Speakers
- Spring Event
- Public Service Week
- Annual Awards Banquet
- Essay Contest for Students
- Social Events
If you are interested in getting more information or are willing to volunteer, please contact me or David Ellis, our membership chairman.
