Next ASPA Luncheon January 20, 2010 at the Citrus Club
Hosted by the Central Florida Chapter of the American Society for Public Administration, come join the discussion on the civic health of Central Florida on January 20, 2010 from 11:15 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at teh Citrus Club in downtown Orlando. Recent research has shown that Floridians are some of the least engaged people in the United States. What are the implications of this? What, if anything, can or should be done about it?

Central Florida's Own Dr. Liou Running for ASPA Vice-President
We are proud to annouce that one of our own dedicated ASPA members and University of Central Florida professor, Dr. Kuotsai Tom Lious, has been nominated as a candidate for ASPA Vice-President. Please take a moment to read Dr. Liou's candidate statement here. From his candidate statement:
I have been a committed member of ASPA for 20 years. I have provided leadership as the president of Gold Coast and Central Florida chapters; chaired national committees (the Publication Committee, the Dwight Waldo Award Committee, the International Public Administration Award Committee, the Section Development Committee, the ASPA-Chinese Public Administration Society Committee, the National Conference Host Committee, and the SECoPA program committee); and served as a member of the section board, the PAR-related award committee, and a task force on international affairs.
I have 30 years of professional public service experience as a practitioner and professor. I have worked with state/county/city governments, and international public agencies to provide expertise on program evaluation, economic development and government innovation. I have also served as Department Chair, Ph.D. and MPA Coordinator, journal co-editor, and editorial board member (e.g., PAR).

September 2009 Central Florida Chapter ASPA Luncheon a Success!
The Central Florida Chapter ASPA held its first monthly luncheon of the new year on September 9, 2009. As part of the new programming for this year, topics are chosen for each meeting. An position paper is presented from an academic in the field of public administration and a rebuttal is given from a practitioner in the field. For the September luncehon, Dr. Bryer presented a paper entitled, The Future of Civic Engagement in Local Governance: 2020. Orange county Public Service Week Proclamation
April 28, 2009 — At today's Orange County Board of County Commissioners meeting, Howard Tipton, President,Central Florida Chapter of the American Society for Public Administration(ASPA), accepted a proclamation designating the week of May 4-10 as Public Service Recognition Week (view here). The presentation took place at the County Commission Chambers on the 1st floor of the County Administration Center at 201 S. Rosalind Ave., and was broadcast live on Orange TV. The meeting will be replayed on Tuesday at 7 p.m. and Saturday at 7 a.m. The proclamation will be on display at the May 6 reception hosted by the Central Florida Chapter of ASPA. Members and non-members are welcome to attend the meeting, to be held 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the UCF facility at 501 W. Livingston St. For more information or to RSVP, please contact cflaspa@yahoo.com

Your Central Florida ASPA Chapter is preparing for its annual awards program to recognize individuals and organizations in the Central Florida area and requests your assistance in identifying candidates for the awards. Please download a copy of the 2009 Awards Nomination Form here.
Award Categories include:
- Public Service Award
- Public Administrator/New Professional Award
- Academic Excellence Award
- Student Essay Award
Nominees must live or work in Central Florida, defined as the service area of the University of Central Florida . Self-nominees will be accepted. Nominators must be members of the Central Florida Chapter of the American Society for Public Administration. Nominees are not required to be members of the Central Florida Chapter of the American Society for Public Administration. Nominations will be reviewed by the Chapter Awards Committee and award winning nominations and essay/s will be subject to publication.
Please complete the form to submit your nomination for one or all four of the award categories. The deadline for nominations is April 27, 2009. Those selected to receive the awards will be announced during Public Service Recognition Week 2009 commencing May 4th.
