California State Legislative Analyst's Office -
This site has the history of the LAO as well as reports, other publications and a useful search tool.

Chief Financial Officers Council -
The CFOC is an organization of the CFOs and Deputy CFOs of the largest Federal agencies, senior officials of the Office of Management and Budget and the Department of the Treasury who work collaboratively to improve financial management in the U.S. Government

Citizen-Driven Government Performance -
Resources for academics and practitioners: The program's approach emphasizes citizen involvement to ensure that what is measured is what matters to citizens and that the data are not corrupted by the natural desire of officeholders to report favorable outcomes. Case studies and Curricular resources on the site promote the adoption of citizen-based performance measures. This website features resources for use in such programs as the Master of Public Administration, Master of Business Administration, Master of Public Policy, Master of Social Work, Certified Public Manager Program, etc. An on-line certificate in Citizen-Driven Government Performance is being offered beginning November 2003.

The Fund for the City of New York -
This is a private operating foundation launched by the Ford Foundation in 1968 with the mandate to improve the quality of life for all New Yorkers. Georgia Performance Audit Operation -

Governmental Accounting Standards Board -

Information System of Public Management Experiences of Chile -
In Spanish, this System is an initiative of the State Reform and Modernization Project that depends on the Ministry of the General Secretariat of the Presidency, impelled by the Government of Chile and executed by the Department of Public Policies of the Institute of Public Affairs at the University of Chile. The main goal of the System is the creation of a database of relevant and innovative experiences in different areas of management of the institutions of Chilean central government's in topics such as human resources, management by results, quality of service and information technologies, among others.

The International City/County Management Association
Center for Performance Measurement -
ICMA's Center for Performance Measurement offers publications, outlines performance indicators and guidance in its Comparative Performance Measurement Program in serving city and county managers.


Kids Count -
Kids Count is a project of the Annie E. Casey Foundation. It is a national and state-by-state effort to track the status of children in the U.S. By providing policymakers and citizens with benchmarks of child well-being, Kids Count seeks to enrich local, state, and national discussions concerning ways to secure better futures for all children.

Minnesota Legislative Auditor's Office -
This site provides general information about the history and goals of the office as well as annual reports. There is detailed information about both performance and financial auditing. This office is responsible for reviewing and commenting on performance reports from 22 state agencies (as to appropriateness, validity, and reliability of outcome measures and data collection efforts) and also to perform best practices reviews examining the procedures and practices used to deliver local government services and identifying practices to save money or provide more effective service delivery.

Minnesota Planning Office -
Includes Minnesota Milestones, the 1992 progress report on milestones, and the 1996 progress report. Minnesota Planning is responsible for developing a long-range plan for the state, stimulating public participation in Minnesota's future, and coordinating public policy with state agencies, the Legislature, and other units of government in Minnesota.

Mississippi Joint Committee on Performance Evaluation and Expenditure Review -

Performance Measurement Advisory Council (PMAC) -

Virginia Results -
The State of Virginia's new web-based performance management system combines state-of-the-art information technology and innovative, practical ideas to provide key decision makers and citizens with comprehensive information about what state government is providing for their tax dollars. The "Virginia Results" site utilizes graphics, user interfaces, and database structures that ensure data is current and meets the needs of senior decision/policy makers, agency staff, and the general public.


Washington Joint Legislative Audit and Review Committee -
JLARC conducts performance audits and other oversight studies; it was mandated in 1996 to facilitate the implementation of effective performance measures throughout state government. On this site is The Legislative Guide to Performance Measurement.
