February Luncheon: Data Analytics for Revenue Collection

The City of Kansas City, Missouri, won a 2017 Missouri Municipal League Innovation Award for its work on increasing revenue using data analytics. The project began in 2013 when the City implemented new tax administration software to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of revenue collections. The Revenue Division embarked on a multiyear project to maximize revenue by fully utilizing the tools in the new software. The result of this new process is a significant increase in revenues, which was enhanced not only by collection of past years’ delinquencies, but also expanding the tax base.
